Creativity is powerful. It is responsible for coming up with all the innovative ideas that help shape the world as it is today through science, technology, and philosophy.

Creativity is considered an innate function of the human mind. It is a person’s outward expression of an emotion or a lingering thought.

However, if you find yourself having problems expressing that thought or emotion and coming up with creative ideas, here’s how you can develop your creativity further.

  1. Try something new and unknown.

Creative people are known to have high risk-taking abilities. A huge part of a person’s creativity stems from trying new things that have unknown outcomes. The higher the risk-taking inclination the person has, the more likely he is to be creative.

You don’t have to go sky diving just to get a boost in creativity. Even trying to learn a new language or going to a place you’ve never been to will help increase your creativity.

  1. Follow a diverse routine.

Diversify Your Routines

If you happen to follow a constant and rigid routine, your creativity greatly diminishes being confined. Confinement doesn’t stimulate creativity.

The best way to avoid this scenario is to dedicate some free time for yourself wherein you don’t have any rules to follow. This will enable your creativity to naturally flow without any inhibition.

  1. Doodle My Friend.

There’s this misconception that doodling is something people do without paying attention, but the truth is, it helps keep them engaged to a task. It can keep your mind working without you having to exert a lot of effort, and it can lead to cognitive breakthroughs.

To-Do: Get a piece of paper out and draw whatever you are feeling or comes to mind. This is a way to have a visual conversation with your mind. Notice any new ideas you may have or tension released, allowing yourself to relax and get creative.

  1. Get moving physically.

If you find yourself stumped, just try to go for a walk, or do a few jumping jacks.

Physical activity can boost blood circulation and give your brain an oxygen boost. In addition, taking a walk may expose you to sights, smells, and experiences that can trigger the creative process.

  1. Dedicate time for a complete freedom of expression.

You also need to dedicate some free time each or at least twice per week in order to do activities that have you have never done before. This can help you think creatively without too much constraints. It can also provide you with the opportunity to develop your talents.

You can also spend time with other equally or more creative people. Talking to other creative people can help you brainstorm and plan new ideas to keep your creative juices running.

  1. Keep a journal.

Another noteworthy thing you can do is to keep a journal. This way you are able to keep track of your creative process and the idea that you have produced.

Having a journal can help you reflect back on what you have achieved so far and find other possible solutions. The journal can also serve as a future reference for inspirations on how to increase creativity.

  1. Engage in creative recreations.

Trying something new will enable you to explore your capabilities. It will also give your creativity a boost.

Look for a pottery, leatherworking, or woodworking class in your community. If those things are too expensive or time consuming for you, try cooking classes. Any endeavor that stimulates the creative mind is the way to go.
