Creative Problem-Solving Techniques

Everyone at one point or another will have a stumbling block of creativity.

Whether you’re a writer, dancer, singer, or just about any discipline in the world, you will find that you can hit a plateau.

The wall that you hit can be hard to overcome, if you don’t know a few steps that can help you absolutely change everything around you.

Sometimes, the next brilliant idea that you may have comes after pushing through the stumbling and stifling issues that many people face.

Consider the following techniques for creative thinking that will guide you through the creative problem-solving process.

Create Obstacles to Force Newly-Created Options

The first thing that you can do to boost your creativity is to put a box on what you’re doing or creating obstacles for yourself.

For instance, if you’re a painter that uses a wide array of colors, trim the options. Instead of using 5 or 6 colors, use only 2.

By stifling your options as an obstacle, you will force your brain to bring about new ideas to compensate for the lack of options. You’ll mix things, you’ll create something new, and you’ll find yourself on a new wavelength of options that you would otherwise not see.

Just like solutions can not exist without having problems, creativity can sprout out by having obstacles.

Walk Away From The Medium

If you find yourself stifled, your options limited, and you are not seeing results, then walk away from what you’re doing.

Literally walk away. Go do anything else, and think about the larger picture. Don’t think of the solution to the block you may have, instead, focus your energies on just about anything else.

For instance, people often hit the gym when not feeling creative, and it’s in the process of movement that the lightbulb turns on and all new things start to manifest as a whole.

Why is that? The source of creativity lies in the subconscious. By letting it work in the background without letting your conscious mind interferes, you will be given that creative moment of spark you have been needing.

Think About The End User Results

One of the great tricks that tech workers use in regards to UI (user inferface), UX (user experience), and all sorts of programming is “psychological distance,”

They think about the end user, and how they will work with the end result rather than trying to push what they “think” is the right path.

It’s when you end up taking a step back in thinking in about things through the end user, that you separate yourself from the work that you’re looking at, and you start to see a huge jump in the creative cycle in how to get there.

Destroy Negativity At All Costs

Your mind can play tricks on you. It can tie an anchor on your mind and cause you to sink into a dread that is hard to get out of.

This is not a matter of mental problems associated with depression and others. This is a matter of positivity versus negativity. Do not think of what you’re doing in terms of negativity. Positivity is the key here.

Find a way to be positive. Make lists, dance around, listen to music, do anything to enhance positivity over the anxiety, and any negative precept that may float in.

Dwelling on the negative will cause your creative ideas to shatter into pieces, and the end result will be hard to clean up.

These are just a few ideas that can push you to better creative outputs. The goal is to get better end results, and it all starts with stepping forward with any or all of these ideas.
